Between singing, acting, and being a coach on The Voice, Christina Aguilera is constantly in the spotlight! This isn’t always a good thing, like when the paparazzi has a camera on you and your skin doesn’t want to cooperate!
This week, The Pretty Practitioners at MAS are showing their love for Christina by focusing their attention on her famous face!

Lets be honest, everyone has had a problem with acne at some point in their lives, and Christina is no exception Her skin tends to be oily and prone to blemishes, and here are a few things I would recommend to help her prevent and treat breakouts:
1. Salicylic Acid and/or Benzoyl Peroxide
Both salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are main ingredients in acne fighting cleansers and toners. They both help to exfoliate the top layers of skin, open clogged pores, and neutralize any bacteria within your pores. Christina may be able to prevent breakouts by simply using one of these ingredients in her daily cleanser. I like the Aveeno Clear-Complexion Foaming Cleanser, ($7.99, walgreens.com), with salicylic acid. For those annoying zits that still manage to pop up, you can use a spot treatment, such as Neutrogena’s On-The-Spot Acne Treatment ($6.79, drugstore.com).
2. Oil Control
Christina has very oily skin, and on top of that she wears a lot of makeup!
Oily skin in general is more prone to acne than dry skin, but add in heavy make up and you are bound to breakout! Anyone with oily skin should have some kind of oil prevention strategy to help keep your pores clear. Use oil blotting sheets through the day for an easy way to cut down on oil throughout the day. My favorite are Shiseido Pureness Oil-Control Blotting Paper ($18, sephora.com), they are bigger than most blotting paper so each one paper goes a long way.
Diet has a huge impact on your skin!
Your body needs vitamins and minerals to maintain the health of your skin and fight off infection. Although it’s difficult to say what Christina eats, whatever it is had led to quite a change. Age and motherhood aside, this die-hard dancer does not have the same body that she did during her “Genie in a Bottle” days. Eating vitamin packed fruits and vegetables and cutting back on greasy foods could help Christina cut down on oil production, prevent breakouts, and improve her overall health.

Christina sure loves her makeup! It’s hard to tell if she uses it to cover up bad skin or if she uses so much that her skin is bad!
I’m going along with Shea and guessing that Christina has less than stellar skin even though she is a star.
A good habit to get into is to wash your hands before you begin your beauty routine. I would also recommend an oil controlling base to help minimize her pores and cut down on shine. I love Pores No More by Dr. Brandt, ($45, sephora.com). It goes on like a light cream, but instantly vanishes into a smooth, shine free shield that lasts all day.
With less noticeable pores and sheen, Christina would be able to avoid relying on a mask of makeup to pull off the look of clear skin. Oily skin needs special care and special products alike. Look for “oil-free” and “noncomedogenic” on the labels of your beauty products to help cut down on any slickness and to allow your skin to breathe.
Stila’s Natural Finish Oil Free Makeup, ($38, ulta.com), comes in 8 shades and is one of my favorites for mid-level coverage. It’s easy to blend especially with a sponge (such as the beautyblender), which cuts down on putting your fingers on your face!
A light dusting of natural face powder like Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil, ($19, amazon.com), will seal out any stray shine and keep Ms. Aguilera flawless no matter how much running around she does and can easily be reapplied if needed.

Christina’s main battle against aging right now has to do with her weight.
She’s much heavier than we’re used to seeing her, which is totally understandable given all the stress she’s been through recently. The problem with extra body weight as it relates to aging is that it makes everything sag… cheeks, neck, breasts, tummy… and once Christina loses the weight (which we know she will), most of her body will be left looking just a bit older. There’s no plastic surgery tricks here.
Want to stay young? Keep yourself in shape, eat a healthy diet, stay out of the sun, don’t smoke, and take good care of your skin. It really is that simple… I promise!
