How to Break-out of Summer Breakouts!

how to get rid of acne, how to treat summer time breakouts, skin care advice

Trust me, the only thing I want to be “breaking out” right now are the summer dresses that I haven’t had a chance to wear yet!.

Unfortunately, the recent weather fluctuations have taken a toll on my skin making it way more acne prone. Many women wish their acne had ended with puberty, but unfortunately we all have to deal with occasional breakouts well into adulthood.

Check out our Top 4 tips to treat breakouts for a fresh start before the Fall season.

1. Clean It Up!

The most important thing is to keep pores clear by washing your face twice a day with a  cleanser, preferably one that contains acne fighting ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Skip the creamy cleansers. They may cause skin to produce oil and are best suited for dry skin types.

Massage the product on your skin for at least one minute  with your fingertips and let it sink in for a sec. This allows the active ingredients to penetrate deeper. Rinse, and gently pat dry.

2. Target and Treat!

For problem areas, zit cream helps dry up the eruptions. Dab a thin layer only to the problem patches. Wait for the cream to absorb, then apply an oil-free lotion to dry areas.  If skin starts to feel tight or peel, chances are you may be overdoing it with the pimple potion.  This could cause more irritation and (gasp!) perhaps another eruption.

Remember, your body automatically keeps things balanced so if it senses dry patches it will compensate by producing more oil.  Always resist the urge to pick! Untouched pimples usually go away within a few days. 3. Exfoliate!

Gentle exfoliation once every two weeks helps to keep things clear by sloughing away dead skin cells that clog pores. The longer old cells stay on the surface,  the duller skin looks. Exfoliation also increases cell turnover so healthy skin cells make their way to the surface faster. Using products that contain glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids will also help to chemically polish the skin.

Apply mineral concealer with a small brush and dab directly on the pimple using tiny strokes to blend around the base.
