Ack! Who turned off the heat?

The last day of summer is always a bit bittersweet, but this is actually my favorite time of the year. It means Pumpkin Spice Lattes, leaf peeping, and lots of layered looks.
The change of seasons is also the perfect time to layer on the lotion for some serious skin care. After a summer in the sun and sand, even the best protected skin can end up a little parched and we know that’s only gonna get worse as the chill sets in for the next, gasp, six months or so!
Here are a few moisturizing miracles to soothe and smooth your skin through the change of seasons
Face Time
I’m obsessed with keeping my face well hydrated! Not only does it help give skin a healthy suppleness but it also prevents it from getting brutally chapped up as the air gets drier and more crisp.
I’m not a fan of anything too thick and goopy, especially during the daytime, but I do like to feel like I have a little dewy-ness going on. Skyn Iceland Pure Cloud Moisturizer($65, sephora.com) is one of my new favorites for it’s perfect texture and natural ingredients. An old standby is Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer ($11.49, drugstore.com). Nothing fancy, but effective and clean feeling, with an SPF boost.
Body Butter
Here’s where I like to bring in some heavy hitters!
I have found that it is really important to start as early as possible to fight against dry skin. Exfoliate once or twice a week in the shower and make sure not to keep the water too hot or stay in too long, no matter how cold you feel.Once you get out, lightly dry off and immediately slather on some lotion. If your skin is still a little wet it will absorb the extra moisture even better.
Olay Quench Ultra Moisture Body Lotion ($3.99, walgreens.com) has been my go-to since it hit the market a few years ago. It’s amazingly hydrating, but never feels too thick. It also has a tiny bit of shimmer to it, although they don’t advertise that fact. I’m loyal to it and it’s a true beauty bargain! Vaseline makes another slather worthy lotion. Check out their Intensive Rescue Clinical Therapy Body Lotion($8.98, amazon.com).
Hands On
Red, cracked hands are just not cute!
Besides being unsightly, having dry skin on your hands hurts. Get a head start on hydration with a healing hand lotion. I keep one in my bag for easy access and reapply frequently through the day.
Nivea Smooth Indulgence Hand Cream ($5.99, drugstore.com) sinks right in without being the least bit sticky. Kiehl’s Unusually-Rich-But-Not-At-All-Greasy Hand Cream ($16, keihls.com) is a lotion legend in a class of it’s own. It is what it is. Nuff said
Don’t forget your first layer of defense against the weather’s wear and tear this season. Keeping your skin soft, smooth, and safe early in the season will help you cheat the chap later this winter.
What lotion are you in love with right now?
